In a thrilling match filled with emotions, Canada edged past Venezuela in a penalty shootout to secure their place in the Copa América semifinals, marking the best performance in the tournament's history for the Maple Leaf team. They will face Argentina, whom they met in the opening match.

Canada took the lead with a goal from Jacob Shaffelburg in the 13th minute of the first half. However, Salomón Rondón equalized for Venezuela 19 minutes into the second half, becoming the second player to reach three goals in the tournament.

The match was intensely competitive, with both teams playing a very vertical game, resulting in the ball moving swiftly from one end of the pitch to the other. Canada had several clear opportunities but struggled with finishing, having scored only two goals throughout the Cup. Venezuelan goalkeeper Rafael Romo's impressive performance also kept Canada at bay.

In the penalty shootout, there were a mix of well-executed and poorly-taken shots. Venezuela saw both Yangel Herrera and Jefferson Savarino miss in their initial five attempts, while Canada’s Liam Millar and Stephen Eustáquio also failed to convert. In the sudden death stage, Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau made his second crucial save by stopping Wilker Ángel's shot. Ismael Koné then sealed Canada's victory, sending them through to the semifinals.

Canada's remarkable run continues as they prepare to face Argentina in the next stage of the competition.
