Pep Biel Leads Charlotte FC Comeback Victory Over Austin FC

By Adam Luna

Charlotte FC delivered a strong second half performance to defeat Austin FC 3–1 in an entertaining match in Major League Soccer.

Charlotte opened the scoring in the 29th minute through Idan Toklomati. The striker finished from close range with a right footed shot after a dangerous attacking sequence inside the Austin penalty area. The lead did not last long, however. Just two minutes later, the match was leveled when defender Morrison Agyemang inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, bringing the score to 1–1.

A crucial moment in the first half came in the 25th minute when Guilherme Biro of Austin FC was shown a red card, forcing the visitors to play with ten men for the remainder of the match. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Austin managed to reach halftime with the score tied.

Charlotte increased the pressure in the second half and eventually regained the lead in the 68th minute. Midfielder Pep Biel finished a well worked move from the center of the box after a combination involving Liel Abada and Harry Toffolo.

Austin struggled to contain Charlotte’s attacking waves during the final minutes. Goalkeeper Brad Stuver produced several key saves to keep the visitors alive, denying chances from Toklomati, Wilfried Zaha, and Kerwin Vargas.

The breakthrough that sealed the match arrived deep in stoppage time. In the 93rd minute, Pep Biel struck again, finishing calmly from inside the box after a setup by Luca de la Torre and Wilfried Zaha to make it 3–1.

Charlotte continued to threaten even after the third goal, with Biel striking the crossbar moments later and Zaha forcing another save from Stuver.

The victory highlights Charlotte FC’s attacking depth and persistence, while Austin FC will reflect on the early red card that changed the dynamics of the match and made the uphill battle even steeper.
