Real Salt Lake Silences Atlanta in Five Goal Thriller

By Alonso Contreras

Real Salt Lake earned an impressive road victory after defeating Atlanta United FC 3–2 in an entertaining and high tempo match in Major League Soccer action.

The visitors struck first in the 23rd minute when Sergi Solans finished from the center of the box after a well worked move assisted by Morgan Guilavogui. Just four minutes later, Real Salt Lake doubled the lead as Aiden Hezarkhani fired a right footed shot into the top corner, putting Atlanta on the back foot early in the match.

Atlanta began to respond and found a lifeline in the 38th minute through Alexey Miranchuk. The midfielder produced a quality left footed finish into the top right corner after a combination with Elías Báez and Cooper Sanchez, cutting the deficit to 2–1 and giving the home crowd renewed hope.

However, Real Salt Lake restored their two goal advantage just before halftime. In the 40th minute, Zavier Gozo capitalized on space inside the box and placed a left footed shot across goal to make it 3–1 heading into the break.

Atlanta pushed hard in the second half and controlled long stretches of possession while creating several chances. The pressure finally paid off in the 74th minute when Miranchuk struck again. The Russian attacker finished from close range after a setup by Emmanuel Latte Lath, bringing Atlanta back within one goal and setting up a dramatic finish.

The home side continued to press during the final minutes. Late opportunities from Matías Galarza, Sergio Santos, and Latte Lath kept the Real Salt Lake defense under pressure, while goalkeeper Rafael Cabral delivered crucial saves to protect the lead.

Atlanta nearly found an equalizer deep into stoppage time when Latte Lath rose for a header inside the box, but the effort sailed just over the crossbar. Moments later the final whistle confirmed a valuable road victory for Real Salt Lake.

The win showcased Real Salt Lake’s attacking efficiency in the first half and their defensive resilience late in the match, while Atlanta United will be left reflecting on missed opportunities despite a spirited second half comeback attempt.
