San Diego FC 3–1 LA Galaxy

San Diego FC delivered an impressive performance to defeat the LA Galaxy 3–1, overcoming a major obstacle after being reduced to 10 men early in the second half. The result was built on an aggressive start, efficient finishing and a strong defensive effort when the Galaxy tried to take control of the match.

San Diego came out with much more intensity. From the opening minutes, they attacked the Galaxy's defensive structure and created several opportunities around the box. Anders Dreyer was heavily involved in the early attacking phase, while Elias Achouri and Gabriel Pirani consistently looked to exploit spaces between the Galaxy's midfield and defense.

Achouri gives San Diego the lead

The pressure finally produced a goal in the 11th minute.

Anders Dreyer helped create the opportunity, with Onni Valakari also involved in the buildup, before Elias Achouri finished from inside the box. His right-footed shot found the upper-right corner, giving Novak Micovic little chance.

The goal reflected San Diego's early dominance. They continued to generate opportunities, with Dreyer forcing a save in the ninth minute and Achouri coming close again shortly afterward.

The Galaxy struggled to establish consistent possession in dangerous areas, although they gradually began finding more opportunities as the half progressed.

Galaxy stay alive before halftime

LA Galaxy eventually created some dangerous moments of their own.

Marco Reus tested CJ dos Santos with a shot from inside the box just before halftime, but the San Diego goalkeeper made an important save to preserve the lead.

The Galaxy also saw attempts from Hirving Lozano and Isaiah Parente blocked or miss the target, while San Diego continued to threaten through set pieces and quick attacking combinations.

At halftime, San Diego had the advantage, but the match remained very much alive.

Tverskov sent off

The biggest turning point came just five minutes into the second half.

Jeppe Tverskov received his second yellow card in the 50th minute and was sent off, leaving San Diego with only 10 players.

Suddenly, the Galaxy had a numerical advantage and the momentum appeared to be shifting.

LA Galaxy immediately increased the pressure, looking to stretch San Diego's defensive shape and use the extra man to create opportunities around the penalty area.

San Diego strikes again

Despite being down to 10 men, San Diego responded with another goal.

In the 48th minute, Kieran Sargeant finished from inside the box after an assist from Anders Dreyer.

The goal was particularly damaging for the Galaxy because it came at a moment when they were trying to establish control of the match.

The Galaxy, however, refused to collapse.

Lozano pulls Galaxy back into the game

Just seven minutes later, Hirving Lozano gave the Galaxy new life.

In the 55th minute, Lozano received the ball in a dangerous central position and finished with his right foot into the bottom-left corner.

With San Diego playing with 10 men, the goal appeared to set up a dramatic final half-hour.

The Galaxy pushed forward looking for the equalizer. Reus and Lozano remained involved in the attack, while Erik Thommy and Robert Taylor also helped generate chances from the wide and central areas.

Instead of sitting completely back, San Diego continued to threaten on the counterattack.

The Galaxy had opportunities, but San Diego's defense repeatedly managed to block shots and protect the central areas.

CJ dos Santos became increasingly important as the match progressed, making saves on several Galaxy attempts and helping his team maintain its advantage.

LA Galaxy controlled more of the attacking territory after the red card, but they struggled to turn that numerical advantage into clear chances.

Pellegrino delivers the knockout blow

Then came the decisive moment.

In the 70th minute, Amahl Pellegrino scored San Diego's third goal.

Pellegrino finished from the center of the box with his right foot, finding the bottom-right corner and restoring San Diego's two-goal advantage.

The goal completely changed the final stages of the match. The Galaxy now needed two goals just to rescue a point, while San Diego could focus on defending its advantage and looking for opportunities on the counter.

Dos Santos closes the door

The Galaxy continued attacking until the final whistle.

Hirving Lozano, Erik Thommy and Robert Taylor all tested CJ dos Santos, but the San Diego goalkeeper remained composed.

In the final minutes, San Diego's defense repeatedly got bodies in front of shots, while the Galaxy struggled to find a clear path through the crowded penalty area.

Lozano had another attempt saved in stoppage time, and Thommy also tested dos Santos, but neither could find a second Galaxy goal.

San Diego held on.

The victory becomes even more impressive because San Diego played the final 40-plus minutes with 10 men after Tverskov's second yellow card.

San Diego's performance was defined by three important elements: an aggressive opening, clinical finishing and resilience after the red card.

For LA Galaxy, the defeat will be frustrating because they had a numerical advantage for a significant portion of the second half. They managed to get back into the match through Lozano, but San Diego's third goal ultimately ended the comeback attempt.
