Argentina’s Last Test Against a Promising Guatemala Team.

By Fernando Abarca

Today, Argentina will go against Guatemala, the last game for the Albiceleste before heading to the Copa America as defending champions.”

After a long wait of almost six years, the Guatemalan National Team is set to face Argentina once again. This rematch comes after a memorable friendly duel that took place on September 7, 2018, at the Los Angeles stadium, the Memorial Coliseum.

At that time, Guatemala, under the leadership of Walter Claverí, faced an Argentina still reeling from its World Cup elimination in Russia. Since then, Argentina has won three championships, and this game marked the beginning of Lionel Scaloni's coaching career.

On the other hand, Guatemala was still overcoming the effects of the suspension imposed by FIFA, which kept Guatemala out of international football. Football has smiled back to Guatemala since the arrival of Fernando Tena, who has led the team to Group A in the Nations League and has Guatemala at the top of the table of the present qualifiers.

The friendly match between Guatemala and Argentina is scheduled to be played on Friday in June 2024. The venue chosen for the game is FedEx Field (also Commanders Field), located in Landover, Maryland, United States, with a capacity between 50 and 65 thousand fans.

The upcoming duel, scheduled at 8:00 pm ET, this match upholds immense importance for Argentina as it will be their final test before they set out to defend their Copa América title. For Guatemala, a good result may boost the confidence for the upcoming Nations League and International friendlies.

The bicolor will take a month's break and return to action in July 2024 for a friendly against El Salvador at Dignity Health Sports Park, home to the LA Galaxy. In this team, Carlos Ruiz and Mauricio Cienfuegos represented the team from Los Angeles.
