By Rene Vidal

Atlanta United erased an early deficit and delivered a dramatic second-half comeback, defeating the New York Red Bulls 2–1 after falling behind in the opening minutes.

The Red Bulls struck first in the sixth minute when Emil Forsberg finished from inside the box, converting a chance assisted by Adri Mehmeti, with Julian Hall involved in the buildup. The early goal gave New York control of the match and forced Atlanta to chase the game.

Atlanta responded with pressure and opportunities of its own. Alexey Miranchuk came close in the 23rd minute, but his effort was saved by Ethan Horvath. Tristan Muyumba then had a major opportunity in the 27th minute, sending his effort over the crossbar, while Fafà Picault also missed with a header.

Forsberg nearly doubled the Red Bulls' advantage in the 20th minute, but Lucas Hoyos made an important save to keep Atlanta within reach. The hosts went into halftime trailing 1–0 despite creating several dangerous opportunities.

Atlanta came out with greater intensity after the break. Miguel Almirón had a chance in the 52nd minute but pulled his shot wide, while both teams continued to trade attacks.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 69th minute.

Tristan Muyumba stepped forward and delivered a spectacular equalizer, firing a right-footed shot from outside the box into the top-right corner. Miranchuk provided the assist, with Tomás Jacob credited with the second assist, as Atlanta finally found the goal its pressure had demanded.

The momentum had completely shifted.

With the match entering its final stages, Atlanta found the winner in the 82nd minute. Fafà Picault rose inside the penalty area and headed Miguel Almirón's corner toward the bottom-left corner, completing the comeback and sending Atlanta in front 2–1.

The Red Bulls pushed desperately for an equalizer. Julian Hall forced a save from Hoyos in the 88th minute, while Jorge Ruvalcaba saw another dangerous attempt blocked. Atlanta's defense survived a frantic final stretch that included eight minutes of stoppage time.

When the final whistle arrived, Atlanta had completed a comeback that looked unlikely after Forsberg's early strike.
