First Half
The highly anticipated clash between Angel City FC and Bay FC opened with a high-intensity tempo, both sides eager to impose themselves early. Angel City looked to stretch the field with aggressive wing play, while Bay FC pressed compactly and countered with sharp vertical passes.
The game’s early moments were marred by physicality. In just the 3rd minute, Katie Zelem (Angel City) committed a foul that foreshadowed the gritty midfield battle to come. Moments later, she was involved again, drawing a foul from Bay FC's Abby Dahlkemper. Unfortunately, Zelem suffered an injury by the 8th minute, leaving Angel City temporarily scrambling in midfield structure.
Angel City had the better of the opening shots. In the 9th and 10th minutes, A. Kennedy and M.A. Vignola both had decent looks at goal. Vignola’s strike from just inside the box tested Bay FC's keeper, while a follow-up effort by Alyssa Thompson was parried away by C. Conti, who dropped deep to help defend on set pieces.
Bay FC responded with a flurry of their own. Racheal Kundananji unleashed two powerful efforts in the 14th minute, forcing saves from Angel City’s defense and keeper M. Reid, who received a yellow card shortly after for a reckless challenge on the edge of the box. D. Bailey also had a decent shot on goal as Bay FC gradually tilted the field.
In the 15th minute, Angel City goalkeeper A. Anderson suffered an injury but managed to continue for the time being. However, the pressure from Bay FC would soon tell. In the 22nd minute, Penelope Hocking opened the scoring. The forward latched onto a through ball and slotted a calm finish past Anderson to give Bay FC a 1-0 lead.
Just five minutes later, disaster struck for Angel City again. A foul by Anderson in the penalty area gifted Bay FC a penalty. Up stepped Caroline Conti in the 27th minute, and she made no mistake from the spot—slotting a composed shot into the bottom right corner to double Bay’s lead.
The remainder of the half saw Angel City attempt to claw back momentum. Thompson, Fuller, and Press all had efforts blocked or saved between the 24th and 40th minutes, while Bay FC keeper J. Silkowitz was particularly sharp, denying multiple dangerous efforts including a curling attempt by K. Zelem and a thunderous header from Vignola.
Tempers flared before the break, with Bay’s E. Menges receiving a yellow card in stoppage time (45+3’) and fouls flying in from both sides. The whistle blew with Bay FC firmly in control, up 2-0.

Second Half
Angel City head coach Becki Tweed made several adjustments at halftime, hoping to inject pace and creativity. M. Hodge replaced the injured K. Zelem in midfield, while the team shifted to a more aggressive pressing scheme.
The restart saw immediate attacking intent from Angel City. A. Thompson, their most dangerous forward on the night, had two early shots—one in the 45th minute and another soon after the break—but both were handled expertly by Silkowitz. K. Fuller also tested the keeper with a driven effort in the 46th minute following a corner taken by Press.
Yet, despite the mounting pressure, Bay FC’s defensive structure held strong. The backline, marshaled by Dahlkemper and Menges, repelled wave after wave of Angel City attacks. Silkowitz continued her standout performance, producing a fantastic save in the 53rd minute after a curling strike from R. Tiernan.
As Angel City committed numbers forward, gaps began to appear at the back. R. Kundananji and Dahlkemper both had decent efforts around the 60-minute mark, although neither were able to convert.
The hour mark saw a significant round of substitutions. Angel City brought on Casey Phair, M. Hammond, and M. Moriya to freshen their lines, while Bay FC countered with offensive changes of their own: Asisat Oshoala replaced Kundananji in the 68th minute, followed by a triple switch in the 79th with Shepherd, Boade, and Malonson entering the fray.
Injuries began to mount as the game wore on. M.A. Vignola was forced off in the 64th minute with what appeared to be a muscular issue. Later, in stoppage time, both A. Thompson (Angel City) and A. Malonson (Bay FC) suffered knocks that required medical attention. The match’s intense pace and physicality clearly took its toll.
Bay FC continued to look dangerous in transition, particularly through Huff’s deliveries from corners, but they appeared content to manage the game out rather than push for a third. Angel City’s final substitutions saw J. Dufour and S. Mattice enter in the 90th minute, though they had little time to impact proceedings.
In the closing moments, a series of fouls by R. Tiernan, J. Dufour, and Thompson disrupted Angel City's rhythm. Their frustration was evident, having created chances but failed to convert any of their 14 shots into goals.
