Another chance at silverware for the Columbus Crew presents itself on Wednesday, as they play hosts to 16 time Liga MX champions Club America in the 6th all time edition of the Campeones Cup.

Established in 2018, the Campeones Cup is an annual match held between the winners of the MLS Cup and the LigaMX Campeón de Campeones.

For the hosts, the Columbus Crew, they’ll look to continue the golden standard they’ve set in MLS, cementing themselves as one of the most dominant MLS teams ever. In the last 12 months, the Crew have:

-won the MLS Cup

-won the Leagues Cup

-made the CONCACAF Champions Cup Final

Wilfried Nancy has transformed the Columbus club, taking the reins of the managerial role for the Black and Gold before the 2023 season, following up a lackluster 2022 Crew season under current New England Revolution head coach Caleb Porter. Nancy, in 87 matches with the Crew, has a 50-18-19 record (1.9 PPG) and has taken the Crew that finished under the playoff line in 2022 to his fourth cup final, winning 2 of his first 3 attempts at silverware.

For Club America, they come into this match after an unconvincing start to the Apertura of the 2024/25 Liga MX season, currently sitting 10th in the table. Club America was knocked out of the Leagues Cup in August by MLS side Colorado Rapids, who went on to finish third in the tournament and clinch a berth in the 2025 CONCACAF Champions Cup.

Mexico international Henry Martin leads the club with 5 goals in 9 matches this season for Club America, and Cucho Hernandez leads the scoring tally for the Columbus Crew - 15 goals in 23 MLS matches.

Both teams have previously played in the Campeones Cup, with Columbus winning in 2021 against Cruz Azul, and Club America to Atlanta United in 2019.
