Columbus Crew 2–0 Philadelphia Union: Early Strike and Own Goal Seal Commanding Home Win

By Cristina Burgos

Columbus Crew delivered a composed performance at home, defeating Philadelphia Union 2-0 in a match defined by early efficiency and defensive control.

The breakthrough came quickly, as Max Arfsten opened the scoring in just the 5th minute, finishing from close range to give Columbus an early 1-0 advantage. The hosts maintained pressure throughout the first half, limiting Philadelphia’s attacking rhythm.

Columbus doubled their lead just before halftime in unfortunate fashion for the visitors. A defensive mix-up resulted in an own goal by Nathan Harriel during stoppage time, sending the Crew into the break with a comfortable 2-0 cushion.

In the second half, Philadelphia pushed forward in search of a response, creating several chances through players like Milan Iloski and Bruno Damiani. However, goalkeeper Patrick Schulte and the Columbus defense held firm, consistently denying the Union’s efforts.

Frustration grew late in the match for Philadelphia, culminating in a red card shown to Japhet Sery Larsen in stoppage time after a foul, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.

Final Score: Columbus Crew 2–0 Philadelphia UnionGoals:

  • Arfsten 5’ (CLB)

  • Harriel (OG) 45’+3

A clinical first half proved decisive for Columbus, while Philadelphia struggled to convert their chances and ultimately fell short on the road.
