Haaland Delivers Late Winner as Norway Edges Ivory Coast in World Cup Classic

Norway booked its place in the Round of 16 with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ivory Coast, as Erling Haaland struck four minutes from time to cap a thrilling knockout battle at Dallas Stadium.

In a match that swung dramatically from end to end, Norway twice took the lead and twice looked destined to be denied before the Manchester City striker once again proved the difference on football's biggest stage.

Ivory Coast began brightly and looked the more dangerous side throughout much of the opening half. Nicolas Pépé and Yan Diomande repeatedly stretched Norway's defense, while Ghislain Konan came within inches of opening the scoring when his curling effort found the side netting.

Despite spending long stretches under pressure, Norway struck first with a moment of individual brilliance in the 39th minute.

Martin Ødegaard slipped a pass into Antonio Nusa, who drove into the penalty area before cutting onto his right foot and curling a sensational finish into the top corner beyond Yahia Fofana. The stunning strike gave Norway a 1-0 halftime advantage despite Ivory Coast's impressive first-half display.

Following several attacking substitutions, including the introduction of Amad Diallo, the Elephants found renewed energy. Their persistence paid off in the 74th minute when Pépé combined with Amad on a clever one-two before the Manchester United winger danced past two defenders and calmly bent his shot beyond Ørjan Nyland to level the match at 1-1.

Amad's impact had already been enormous moments earlier after clearing a Norwegian effort off the goal line to keep his country alive before producing one of the finest solo goals of the tournament.

The equalizer set up a frantic finish.

Norway gradually regained control, dominating possession and pushing Ivory Coast deeper into its own half. Their pressure was finally rewarded in the 86th minute when Oscar Bobb sparked a flowing move that ended with Patrick Berg racing into the box before squaring an unselfish pass across goal for Haaland, who tapped home from close range to restore Norway's lead.

The goal extended Haaland's extraordinary scoring streak to 13 consecutive competitive internationals for Norway and ultimately proved to be the match winner.

Ivory Coast mounted one final push during seven minutes of stoppage time. Amad nearly rescued his side again with a curling free kick destined for the top corner, but Nyland produced a spectacular diving save to preserve Norway's advantage before surviving a late corner with goalkeeper Fofana joining the attack.

The final whistle sparked celebrations among the Norwegian players, who advanced to face Brazil in the Round of 16 after surviving one of the toughest tests of their tournament.

For Ivory Coast, the defeat was heartbreaking. The African side created numerous chances, matched Norway for long stretches, and nearly forced extra time through Amad's late heroics, but ultimately fell short against a team that capitalized on its biggest moments.

Norway now marches into the next round with confidence, led by the creative brilliance of Ødegaard and the clinical finishing of Haaland, whose latest decisive goal keeps their World Cup dream alive.
