Orlando City refused to go quietly.
After falling behind in the first half, the Lions came out firing after the break and fought their way back to earn a 1–1 draw against FC Cincinnati in a match that finished with chances flying at both ends.
Cincinnati struck first in the 23rd minute. Pavel Bucha found the breakthrough from outside the box, sending a right-footed shot into the bottom corner to give the visitors a 1–0 advantage.
Orlando had chances to respond before halftime, with Justin Ellis testing Roman Celentano and Tyrese Spicer creating danger, but Cincinnati managed to protect its lead.
The Lions needed just three minutes after halftime to change the story.
In the 48th minute, Tyrese Spicer finished from inside the box after a combination involving Justin Ellis and Iván Angulo. The equalizer immediately gave Orlando renewed energy and turned the second half into an open battle.
Both teams then came within inches of taking control.
Cincinnati's Kévin Denkey struck the post in the 53rd minute, while Ender Echenique hit the woodwork later in the half. Orlando responded with pressure of its own, repeatedly forcing Cincinnati's defense to scramble.
Antoine Griezmann became increasingly influential as the match entered its final stages. The French star delivered dangerous corners, created opportunities and continued looking for the winning moment.
Orlando nearly found it in stoppage time.
Griezmann had a shot blocked inside the box, while Marco Pašalić also saw an effort denied. Wilder Cartagena then sent an attempt over the bar as the Lions continued pushing for all three points.
Cincinnati still had one final threat, but Maxime Crépeau stood tall to deny Evander in the 89th minute and then saved another dangerous effort from Kenji Mboma Dem shortly afterward.
The final whistle arrived with neither side able to find the decisive goal.
Orlando City 1, FC Cincinnati 1.
For Orlando, the point represents a strong recovery after conceding first, but there will also be a feeling that the Lions had enough opportunities late in the match to steal the victory.
Cincinnati, meanwhile, will leave knowing it came close to taking all three points after controlling the scoreboard for much of the match.
In the end, the woodwork, the goalkeepers and two defenses under pressure made sure the points were shared.
