San Diego FC 1–3 Vancouver Whitecaps FC

By Josue Lopez

Full-Time Recap

San Diego FC fell 1–3 at home to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a match dominated early by the visitors and complicated further by a red card to Pablo Sisniega.

First Half

Vancouver struck first in the 8th minute when Brian White finished from close range after a combination involving Andrés Cubas and Ali Ahmed. Minutes later, San Diego suffered a huge setback as goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega scored an own goal (11’) while attempting to deal with a deflection in the box, making it 0–2.

San Diego created several half-chances, with Anders Dreyer and Jeppe Tverskov testing the Whitecaps defense on set pieces, but Yohei Takaoka kept them out.

Just before halftime (45+2’), Brian White struck again this time finishing to the bottom-left corner after a cutback from Ali Ahmed putting Vancouver up 0–3 heading into the break.

Second Half

San Diego came out aggressive with three halftime substitutions, and in the 60th minute Hirving “Chucky” Lozano pulled one back. The Mexican international scored a beautiful right-footed strike from outside the box (xG 2%), assisted by Jeppe Tverskov, making it 1–3.

However, any momentum San Diego gained disappeared in the 79th minute when goalkeeper Pablo Sisniega received a straight red card for a foul on Ryan Gauld. Backup Duran Ferree entered the match and made several key saves late on.

Despite late pressure—including attempts from Dreyer, Tverskov, and Negri, San Diego couldn't close the gap.
