The United States cruised to an emphatic 5–1 victory over Uruguay in a commanding performance that mixed attacking precision with relentless pressure from start to finish. The home side dominated the first half, scoring four times before halftime and effectively putting the match out of reach.
First Half
The U.S. struck early and set the tone. In the 17th minute, Sebastian Berhalter opened the scoring with a clean finish after being set up by Sergiño Dest, making it 1–0. Three minutes later, the Americans doubled their lead when Alex Freeman rose above the Uruguayan defense to head home a cross from Sebastian Berhalter, giving the hosts a 2–0 advantage.
Freeman wasn’t done. In the 31st minute, he scored again, this time with a right-footed finish following a perfectly timed assist from Auston Trusty, stretching the lead to 3–0. The U.S. continued to overwhelm Uruguay and found a fourth goal before the break when Diego Luna capitalized on a loose ball in the 42nd minute to make it 4–0.
Uruguay finally responded in stoppage time. Giorgian de Arrascaeta converted a chance set up by Rodrigo Zalazar in the 45’+1, cutting the deficit to 4–1 at halftime.
Second Half
The match grew more physical early in the second half. Rodrigo Bentancur received a yellow card in the 50th minute and was later sent off with a straight red in the 64th after a harsh foul, leaving Uruguay with ten men.
The U.S. continued to rotate players, strengthening their control in midfield. Their dominance paid off again in the 68th minute when Tanner Tessmann scored with a header, assisted by Giovanni Reyna, restoring the four-goal cushion and pushing the score to 5–1.
Uruguay struggled to generate momentum with a man down, and the final minutes included several substitutions and a series of fouls. Yellow cards were shown to Giovanni Reyna (72’) and Folarin Balogun (76’), while Uruguay’s Rodrigo Aguirre was booked in the 81st minute.
The United States saw out the closing phases of the match with controlled possession and disciplined defending.
