Quito, Ecuador — Inter Miami CF continued their 2026 preseason tour of South America with an entertaining 2–2 draw against Ecuadorian giants Barcelona SC at Estadio Banco Pichincha. Lionel Messi stole the spotlight with a goal and an assist, but the Herons were forced to settle for a draw after a late equalizer by the hosts.
Inter Miami opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Messi, who produced a trademark solo run from midfield, weaving past defenders before firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner. The goal marked the Argentine star’s first of 2026 and showcased his enduring brilliance ahead of the new MLS season.
Barcelona SC responded before halftime when João Rojas found the net in the 41st minute to restore parity. However, Inter Miami regained the lead in first-half stoppage time, as Messi delivered a precise assist to new signing Germán Berterame, who converted to make it 2–1 at the break.
