LA Galaxy 2-1 New England Revolution: Galaxy Survive Late Fightback as Sergi Roberto Helps Control the Game

The LA Galaxy secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution, surviving a late penalty and intense pressure to hold onto all three points.

The Galaxy built a two-goal advantage in the first half through Marco Reus and Robert Taylor, but New England refused to go away. Carles Gil converted a penalty in the sixth minute of stoppage time, setting up a tense finish.

Reus Opens the Scoring From the Spot

The Galaxy took the lead in the 11th minute after earning a penalty. Marco Reus stepped up and calmly converted from the spot with his right foot, sending the ball into the lower-right central area.

The early goal gave LA confidence and allowed the Galaxy to play with more control.

New England responded with several opportunities, particularly through Dor Turgeman, who forced James Marcinkowski into an important save in the 17th minute before heading another chance wide moments later.

Robert Taylor Doubles the Lead

The Galaxy extended their advantage in the 33rd minute.

Hirving Lozano created the opportunity, with Marco Reus providing the second assist, before Robert Taylor finished from inside the box with his right foot.

The 2-0 scoreline reflected LA's efficiency. New England had opportunities, but the Galaxy were more clinical when the chances arrived.

Sergi Roberto's Influence in Midfield

One of the important pieces of the Galaxy's performance was Sergi Roberto.

The experienced midfielder provided composure and helped LA maintain control in possession, particularly when New England began increasing the pressure.

Roberto also showed his defensive awareness in the first half, getting involved in blocking New England's attempts and helping protect the central areas. In the 36th minute, he was credited with blocking an Alhassan Yusuf shot from outside the box.

His ability to connect the midfield with the attacking players was also important as the Galaxy looked to manage the game after taking a 2-0 lead.

Rather than constantly forcing the attack, Roberto helped give LA a more balanced presence in midfield, allowing players such as Reus, Lozano and Taylor to operate higher up the field.

New England Pushes Back

The Revolution came out aggressively after halftime.

New England immediately created three chances in the 47th minute, with James Marcinkowski making saves against Dor Turgeman and Jack Harrison, while Alhassan Yusuf sent another effort over the crossbar.

The Revolution continued to create danger throughout the second half.

Peyton Miller hit the post in the 68th minute, while Yusuf struck the opposite post two minutes earlier. Those chances showed how close New England was to getting back into the match.

The Galaxy also made several substitutions, including changes involving Pablo Ruiz, Luca Sanabria, Joseph Paintsil and Isaiah Parente, as LA attempted to maintain their advantage.

Carles Gil Makes It Nervous at the End

New England finally found a way back into the match deep into stoppage time.

In the 90th+6 minute, the Revolution were awarded a penalty, and Carles Gil stepped up to convert from the spot.

Suddenly, the score was 2-1, and the Galaxy had to survive the final moments.

LA goalkeeper James Marcinkowski made a crucial save on Luca Langoni in the 90th+1 minute, while Harbor Miller also had an attempt saved in the 90th+3 minute.

New England continued pushing, but the Galaxy's defense held firm.

Galaxy Hold On

The final whistle ended a dramatic finish and confirmed a 2-1 victory for the LA Galaxy.

The result was built on an excellent first-half attacking display, important goalkeeping from Marcinkowski, and a midfield performance that included Sergi Roberto's experience and composure.

The Galaxy were not perfect, especially after halftime, but they showed enough resilience to survive New England's comeback attempt.

Two goals in the first half. One late scare. Three points for LA.
