Inter Miami CF walked into Nashville looking for a statement and left with a painful reminder of how quickly an MLS match can get away from you.
Nashville SC delivered a ruthless performance, beating Inter Miami 4–1 after turning a tightly contested first half into a second-half demolition.
The night started with Nashville on the front foot. The hosts created pressure early and repeatedly tested Rocco Ríos Novo before finally breaking through in the 17th minute.
Andy Nájar opened the scoring with a header inside the box, connecting with a cross involving Elias Saad and Matthew Corcoran. Nashville had the lead, and the momentum was firmly on its side.
Inter Miami had a golden opportunity to respond from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute.
Lionel Messi stepped up.
And Brian Schwake won the duel.
Messi's penalty was saved, keeping Nashville ahead and giving the home side another major boost.
But Miami refused to disappear. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Telasco Segovia found the equalizer, firing home in the 45th minute to send the teams into halftime level at 1–1.
The match, however, changed dramatically after the restart.
Just four minutes into the second half, Hany Mukhtar restored Nashville's lead with a left-footed finish from inside the box. Suddenly, Miami was chasing the game again.
Then came the blow that opened the floodgates.
Sam Surridge made it 3–1 in the 56th minute, finishing from close range after a combination involving Cristian Espinoza and Reed Baker-Whiting.
Nashville smelled blood.
Seven minutes later, Mukhtar struck again.
His second goal of the night came in the 63rd minute, giving Nashville a commanding 4–1 advantage and leaving Miami with a mountain to climb.
Inter Miami tried to fight back, and Messi continued searching for a way through. The Argentine had several attempts during the final stages, but Nashville's defense repeatedly got in the way.
The closest Miami came to another goal was almost cruelly symbolic of the entire night.
In stoppage time, Messi struck the post.
Then, moments later, he hit the other post.
The ball simply would not go in.
Miami continued pushing until the final whistle, but Nashville had already done the damage. The hosts had turned a 1–1 halftime score into a convincing 4–1 victory, while Inter Miami was left to process a second half that unraveled in spectacular fashion.
For Nashville, it was a night of efficiency, intensity and ruthless finishing.
For Inter Miami, it was a night where the opportunities were there—but Nashville made the moments count.
The final score told the story: Nashville SC 4, Inter Miami CF 1.
And for Miami, the biggest concern was not simply the defeat. It was how quickly the match slipped away after halftime.
