Orlando City delivered an emphatic 4-1 victory over D.C. United, combining attacking quality, timely finishing, and a strong second-half performance to secure an important result. Antoine Griezmann scored twice, Martín Ojeda added a goal, and Marco Pašalić put the finishing touch on the night in stoppage time.

But beyond the scoreline, this was a performance that showed how dangerous Orlando can be when its attacking pieces work together and the team maintains its intensity.

Griezmann sets the tone

D.C. United started aggressively, forcing Maxime Crépeau into several early saves and testing Orlando's defensive organization. The Lions survived that opening pressure before finding their rhythm.

In the 15th minute, Griezmann opened the scoring with a right-footed finish from inside the box, assisted by Martín Ojeda. The goal rewarded Orlando's growing attacking connection and gave the home side the breakthrough it needed.

Seven minutes later, the combination worked again in a different way. Griezmann helped create the opportunity, and Ojeda finished with his right foot to double Orlando's lead in the 22nd minute. Zakaria Taifi was also involved in the buildup.

Orlando had established a 2-0 advantage, but D.C. refused to disappear from the contest.

D.C. United finds a way back into the game

D.C. continued to search for openings, and its persistence paid off in first-half stoppage time. Tai Baribo converted a penalty in the 45+2nd minute, cutting Orlando's lead to 2-1 just before the break.

The goal changed the halftime mood. Orlando had controlled the scoreboard, but the visitors remained within striking distance, making the opening of the second half especially important.

Griezmann delivers the decisive blow

Orlando needed a strong response after halftime, and Griezmann provided it almost immediately.

In the 50th minute, the French star scored his second goal of the night with a left-footed finish into the bottom-right corner, restoring Orlando's two-goal cushion at 3-1.

That goal was crucial. Rather than allowing D.C. to build momentum, Orlando quickly reasserted control and forced the visitors to chase the game again.

Griezmann's influence extended beyond his finishing. His connection with Ojeda helped Orlando create dangerous situations, while his movement and decision-making gave the attack another dimension.

The bench makes its contribution

As the match progressed, Orlando introduced fresh legs, including Justin Ellis and Marco Pašalić. The changes helped maintain the team's attacking threat and gave the Lions additional energy late in the game.

Ellis made his contribution count in the 90+5th minute, assisting Pašalić for Orlando's fourth goal. Pašalić finished with his left foot from inside the box, capping the victory and underlining the value of Orlando's depth.

The late goal was more than a final addition to the scoreline. It demonstrated that Orlando could continue creating chances even after the match had largely been decided.

Match analysis: A complete attacking performance

Orlando's biggest positive was the connection between its attacking players. Griezmann and Ojeda combined for the opening two goals, and Griezmann's second goal prevented D.C. from gaining any real second-half momentum.

The Lions also benefited from contributions beyond their starting attackers. Taifi played a role in the buildup to Ojeda's goal, while Ellis and Pašalić combined to produce the late fourth.

There are still details to address defensively. D.C. created several dangerous chances during the opening stages, and Crépeau's early saves were important in keeping Orlando from falling behind. Baribo's penalty also showed that the visitors remained capable of punishing mistakes.

However, Orlando responded at the right moments. The team absorbed early pressure, built a two-goal lead, answered the setback before halftime, and finished strongly.

Final Score: Orlando City 4-1 D.C. United
