São Paulo and Cruzeiro Play to Thrilling 1-1 Draw in Preseason Opener

The game, part of the FC Series, not only served as a critical preparation for the upcoming Brazilian soccer season but also marked the return of Óscar to São Paulo, adding extra significance to the contest.

Cruzeiro struck early, taking the lead just 30 seconds into the match. Matheus Pereira capitalized on a defensive misstep by São Paulo and delivered a pinpoint shot into the top corner, leaving goalkeeper Rafael with no chance.

Despite the early setback, São Paulo quickly regained control, dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities. Their persistence was rewarded in the 45th minute when Luciano leveled the score. A perfectly timed assist from Ferreira allowed Luciano to calmly slot the ball past Cruzeiro goalkeeper Cássio.

The second half saw wholesale changes from both sides. São Paulo introduced key players, including Óscar, Calleri, and Alisson, while Cruzeiro fielded a lineup comprised mostly of substitutes. Despite São Paulo’s relentless pressure, including two close attempts from William Gomes, Cruzeiro's defense held firm, ensuring the match ended in a hard-fought draw.

This preseason clash offered both teams a valuable opportunity to fine-tune their strategies while showcasing promising talent. São Paulo will next face Flamengo on Sunday at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, while Cruzeiro is set to take on local rivals Atlético-MG at the Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando.
