The Roots Keep Rising Up

The Oakland-based team keeps doing things after keeping a clean sheet against Louisville City FC, the best team in the Eastern Conference.

HAYWARD, CA - Saturday was a good day for soccer. The Euros were in action in the morning, and there was some Copa America, MLS, and, of course, USL action. The Roots hosted the best team in the East at the beautiful and modest Pioneer Stadium. The goal was clear: to keep the Roots' momentum going.

As usual, the passionate fans of Oakland showed up on that Saturday evening to support their beloved club. The game kicked off at 7:00 p.m., and the first half was a display of intense competition. Both teams had equal chances in possession and shot attempts, keeping the game on a knife's edge. The match saw some yellow cards from both sides and some scuffles, adding to the drama.

The first half ended without much to say.

In the second half of the game, things started getting more entertaining as the Roots came back out to the pitch with a different mentality and different ways of executing. As soon as the second half began, the Roots started attacking more and creating opportunities. It was not going to be any longer before we saw the first goal of the match.

And then, in the 62nd minute of the game, Root's striker Jonathan Rodriguez opened the scoresheet, lifting the spirit, the chants, and the mood of the team and those in attendance.

After that goal, the team prioritized the defensive side to keep the score up by game until the game concluded.

With this win at home, Oakland marked the fifth win in the last six matches, climbing to second in the Western standings, just five points behind New Mexico. Oakland's goal is to keep doing things right, and they seem to have figured out the formula.

Oakland will be on the road against Pittsburgh this following week.

On June 21, Oakland will rematch local USL rivals Sacramento Republic FC, where the game will be nationally broadcast on over-the-air CBS at 1:00 pm local time.
