Orlando City 3–0 Atlanta United: A Complete Performance at Inter&Co Stadium

By Alonso Contreras

Orlando City delivered a commanding performance to brush aside Atlanta United 3-0 at Inter&Co Stadium, securing an important win in front of an energized home crowd.

First Half: Orlando Strike First from the Spot

The first 45 minutes saw Orlando City grow steadily into the match, with early efforts from Kyle Smith and Iván Angulo signaling their attacking intent. Despite Atlanta creating a few half-chances, notably headers from Jamal Thiaré and a long-range effort from Alexey Miranchuk, it was Orlando who made the breakthrough.

In the 42nd minute, Luis Muriel was brought down inside the box, earning a penalty. Muriel confidently dispatched it into the bottom right corner, giving Orlando a deserved 1-0 lead heading into halftime. His clinical finish, reflected the dominance Orlando began to exert late in the half.

Second Half: Orlando Turn Up the Heat

Orlando came out of the dressing room with even more intensity. Early second-half chances for Marco Pašalić and Duncan McGuire hinted at their attacking ambition.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 51st minute. Marco Pašalić, already lively, combined smartly with Alex Freeman, who rifled a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner from the right side of the box. It was a composed finish, again showcasing Orlando’s sharpness in front of goal.

Atlanta tried to respond, making a flurry of substitutions to inject pace and creativity. However, Miguel Almirón and Edwin Mosquera, despite finding some space in dangerous areas, could not find the finishing touch, with multiple efforts blocked by the sturdy Orlando defense, led by Robin Jansson and David Brekalo.

Orlando sealed the match in the 67th minute when Marco Pašalić added a third. Picking up a loose ball outside the box, Pašalić unleashed a sweetly struck left-footed drive into the bottom right corner.

Late Drama and Game Management

The closing stages were marked by professional game management from Orlando. Nicolás Rodríguez and Martín Ojeda both had efforts blocked, while Atlanta launched a series of attacks and corners that came to nothing.

Tempers flared slightly late on, with yellow cards shown to Bartosz Slisz and Ajani Fortune for Atlanta, and Rodrigo Schlegel for Orlando. However, Orlando never looked like surrendering their clean sheet, with goalkeeper Colin Guske remaining largely untroubled.
