It has been a busy offseason for new Red Bull Head of Sport Julian de Guzman. Today, he gets his crown jewel of the winter.

On February 2nd, Red Bull New York announced the signing of Mexican-American winger Jorge Ruvalcaba from Pumas UNAM for an undisclosed fee.

"We are very excited to welcome Jorge to our club,” said Julian de Guzman. “He is a dynamic, creative attacker that has shown great potential and a strong work ethic, and we are confident that he will contribute to our success both on and off the field.”

Prime Video Mexico is reporting the transfer fee will be $6,500,000, plus add-ons, according to Cántalo Camacho.

The 24-year-old from Rialto, California, put pen to paper on a four-and-a-half-year MLS contract through 2029-2030, with an option for the 2030-2031 season.

Given the reported transfer fee, Ruvalcaba will occupy Red Bull's third designated player slot in 2026, alongside Emil Forsberg and Eric Choupo-Moting. First reported by Joe Pantorno of amNewYork. Red Bull can buy down the contract in future seasons, per the club.

Ruvalcaba has had an interesting path to the professional game. Ruvalcaba was a student-athlete at Division II Cal State San Bernardino before making the decision to turn pro and join Pumas U20s in 2021. Ruvalcaba has played 100 games for the senior team in all competitions, scoring sixteen goals and providing nine assists.

Following the departure of Lewis Morgan, Ruvalcaba will have a lot of expectations weighed over his head. Luckily for new head coach Michael Bradley, the winger position at Red Bull has become a strength.

"Jorge is a talented, young player that we are very excited to have join our club,” said Michael Bradley. “We believe he will integrate well into our team, and his versatility and pace will give us additional options in the attacking third. We are looking forward to working with him as he looks to integrate and contribute to the success of the team.”

With the additions of Ruvalcaba and Cade Cowell this offseason, Bradley will have multiple different options to choose from with Cameron Harper, Mohammed Sofo, Andy Rojas, and Rafael Mosquera all looking to make an impact off the bench in 2026.

The move to Red Bull comes after catching the attention of Javier Aguirre and being called up to the Mexican National team. Ruvalcaba made his debut on November 19th, 2025, in a 2-1 road loss against Paraguay.

Now, as the globe prepares for the World Cup this summer in the United States, Ruvalcaba will look to get off to a hot start with Red Bull to ensure he gets that call to represent Mexico on the biggest stage.
